I have worked both... and I received more in my private secter job..plus bonuses..,. I do not get that now working for the state.. all I get are things being taken away and I am a tax payer too!
JohnSteady, so average country workers make no more than private sector jobs? They do not receive weeks of vacation pay and weeks more of sick time? They do not get a healthcare plan or retirement benefits? They do not receive a pay scale that surpasses most of the private sector? I wonder where these rumors come from? Does the county still only hire from the families that already work there or has that changed also?
Instead of checking cars for illegal deer maybe they should stand outside of grocery stores and see what these EBT users are driving as they light up their cigs on the way out.
This morning I was stopped twice by road checks. Deputy's, troopers and Encon were checking for illegal deer. I wish our State would put as much effort into finding ILLEGAL foreign nationals.
TiredOfTax, joe average county employee is not getting great benefits, great retirement etc... you must have them confused with the likes of so called "Directors" and Jonny Stead! Look at the back of the budget it shows salaries. IF the union gets a 1% increase the Fat at the top gets 2.5% Union employees can not just not come to work and claim they were sick like the fat at the top, whom by the way have a never ending supply of Sick Time....they never run out...try that in the private sector! The county is like gravy, the harder working people are at the bottom and the fat and greasy ones are at the top hardening up since they don't move alot. Then look over the budget and see what they want to order! New chairs that must be velvet lined like thrones to park their butt in all day...over $500 for chais and desks???? look at the scanner someone needs to scan their kids pictures. Hey lets do away with the reserved parking so taxpayers have a closer spot to the county building.
Well I was at the county building a while ago renewing my license and i walked around a little afterward. I can testify that county works don't just sit around. I saw some getting up, going over to the copier or coffee maker, going out to lunch or to the bathroom, etc. So it is not true they just sit around all day.
I say hold back out county tax payments until they start making some moves that will benefit the taxpayers for once. Hey hold the state taxes too. What are they going to do - county workers go on strike - the only difference there would be instead of just sitting there all day they would now be hold a picket sign. Big Deal!
Everything is about money folks, our money. The premise seems to be that the Govt. owns all the money and we get to keep what they deem as 'fair'. Do not accept that premise. It is in fact the opposite. We earn money in exchange for services and/or goods. We then provide for the operation of our Govt.. Taxation was NEVER meant to provide an income for ANYONE outside of Government. More on topic, threatening taxpayers (with our own money) is a very dangerous tactic. Some of us still understand that WE have the power of the purse and the ballot box and are not afraid to use it.
District Attorney Louise Sira to buy 12 RLS gun-light systems for $780 and 12 holsters for $143 for state police in Mayfield out of her crime forfeiture proceeds. She said the light systems cost $65 apiece and there is no cost to the county for the purchases.??? There is no such thing as no cost to the county!
Just like the bumper sticker says... New York.. the Vampire state. I will tell any swinging soul that will listen, dont even think of moving up here unless your plan is to be on P/A, HEAP, WIC, Medicaid or some other form of liberal aid. Or, you just like paying egregious taxes, then having your elected officials, or the people they put in place, STEAL it all, or give it to the lazy(probably their relatives)! This state is corrupt, this county even more so. I didnt think it was possible to make Schenectady look so good.
Like Ataxpayer points out, it's hard to stay strictly on a topic as there are other factors & when taxpayers $$$ are involved, we aren't stupid enough to accept watching our Sheriff's Patrols being thrown under the bus so others can collect "freebies" ~ the free cell phones with 250 free min per month -just the latest example of our being ripped off !!!Of course these folks will start getting the FREE text messages telling them how to vote so they can keep getting their perks - that's a socialist no-brainer - - just wait & see ;(
To usedtolivethere, you're right, it is about the road patrol. But when LH runs an article that the BOS is considering eliminating it then the next day they run an article saying the BOS grants DSS $75,000 for babysitting services to the end of 2011 it concerns taxpayers. Eliminate the road patrol and continue to give to DSS?!? Cuts should be across the board, cut back on the road patrol, cut back on Welfare and ELIMINATE their cell phones. It doesn't make sense - Fulton Co. won't have a road patrol but every non-working individual will still have a cell phone. How do they justify that?
This budget is all crap! If public employees simply did their jobs with the same vigor that private sector workers did we wouldn't need 25% of them. What we have here is workers that get the very best in medical coverage, more vacation and sick time than they could ever use (and will likely get in bonus pay), a great retirement package and every single holiday off or paid for. Now this is all being paid for by the taxpayers that already are paying a huge burden in welfare here in Fulton county/Gloversville. It is way past time for them to get to doing a full time job to earn the over the top pay that they already receive! Welfare on the bottom, public employee welfare on the top!
Free cell phones - what's next - free computers. They don't NEED cell phones - all they need is a basic phone service to make emergency outgoing calls.
Yes - it even gets better as the mother is aided through WIC & probably HEAP and MEDICAID & now even Grandma can join the welfare bandwagon. . . but she's probably already on it. :( hmmm wonder if they applied for their FREE CELL PHONES yet as that's one of the latest giveaways thanks to those of us PAYING OUR PHONE BILLS.
yup the babysitting thing is a joke. Now think about it - say your daughter is on Welfare and decides to work a little and needs a babysitter. As a retired grandmother/father are you actually going to charge your struggling daughter to babysit your own grandchild? But waite "brain storm" one can charge the taxpayers and give the money to their daughter who is already getting a nice chunk of benefits from the taxpayers. Many people are doing this.
I believe this is just another scare tactic from our supervisors. I would like to know if the supervisors have ever tried to call some of the offices that are "open to the public?" I have tried and get an answering machine stating that,"we are in the office and will call you back." Well guess what, they never do. What are these offices doing that they cannot return a phone call the public that put them in office? This includes all offices of Fulton County. I wish everyone in Fulton County would choose an office or two to call and see what the response is. Lets flood the offices with phone calls and see what departments do not answer or return our call. We made our mistake by putting them in office, lets "prove" they are not doing their jobs!
You got that right ataxpayer. Just check what happened in Albany not too long ago. "Lawmaker's husband arrested" collecting DSS payments for babysitting for grandaughter while also working at AMTRAK (another taxpayer subsidized operation) Nice work if you can get it . . *******blog.timesunion****/localpolitics/10031/lawmakers-husband-arrested/
Fulton Co. BOS voted to grant DSS an additional $75,000 to continue funding child care to the end of 2011. Well thank heavens for that! Now Grandma (who usually watches the kids for free) can continue to submit the hours so momma can collect even more from the taxpayers. There's alot of fraud involved with the babysitting service with DSS

It is more economical to hire from the same (Republican) families who work there because that way they don't have to print up new name tags.
