For the first time in ages the State Legislature and the Governor agreed on legislation that is intended to put a cap on proprty tax increases and we are debating whether or not to violate that cap. How insane have we and our Board of Supervisors become and to think that fourteen of them were just re-elected without any opposition is another insane act on our part. Wake-up taxpayers!!!

Well we here in Gloversville are in the same boat BUT even though they are at the legal tax limit now things are rumored to be changing to allow a newer assessment to be used that will enable them to tax us more... a lot more! Even though we cannot sell our homes at the prior assessment the new one will be laughable!

ToT, here in the Town of Mohawk our brand new shiny reassessment shows my property worth twice what I paid for it in 1992 and the taxes reflect that increase. Unfortunately, I couldn't sell it for what I paid for it because nobody in their right mind would want to buy property around here. So,you're right and it's happening now.

In Gloversville and likely soon the entire county. landowners may think that they have equity in their homes but if the trend continues they will have nothing. Land/home value is like the stock market, they are worth what someone will pay. When we have completed the "redistribution" of our hard earned money to those that are moving here on welfare and other social assistance, our homes will be worth nothing. Our streets are filled with an increase of crimes and the courts are going to allow Kinderhook to continue to degrade the value of our area further by building more LOW INCOME HOUSING. We have no jobs, very little manufacturing and our schools are about to split wide open due to special needs students. How is this wealth distribution working out for you? Keep you homes and your cars locked, protect yourself any way you can or they will help to redistribute your wealth even faster through theft!

Tremon, Albany is a joke thats what I am saying. Government officials can lie and get away with it. The 2% Cuomo did is a joke.

Unfortunately those who we elect are killing the "American Dream" and forcing people out of our counties and the state. I have come to the conclusion that my children would be better off living where there are more opportunities ie. lack of local jobs and high taxes. I have also come to the conclusion that I will NEVER OWN my home in Fulton county. With the high taxes and steady increases in taxes it will amount to paying monthly rent even when my mortgage is paid off. Can't afford my taxes will = losing my home.

Notgood I’m not following your post, the poll is asking about Fulton and Montgomery Counties overriding the tax cap. Are you saying Albany Officials should not have instituted a state imposed tax cap?

Get rid of Stead and his puppets and that should save us a lot! Remember his big fat raise? Did you get one for crying and whining that others made more than you did? Tell jonny boy to join the real business world if he does not like his pay! The person driving the snowplow should make more than good ol’ jonny boy! Eliminate some department heads and their FAT bonus packages like unlimited sick time! Do away with unnecessary travel for “Meetings.” So-called meetings held in resort areas, what work really is done? Teleconference is cheaper for the taxpayers! Those that remain will have to divide the work to cover those other departments! When trimming the fat you have to start at the top and work downwards towards the bone. People worry about people ripping off DSS, what about those that are ripping off the taxpayers???

After what I see going on in Albany our officials don't have a clue. They are so one sided to the liberal way it makes me sick. Laws can be broken as long as you support the liberal way... I think it's time for a lawsuit.

If Gloversville instituted a tax on pajama bottoms, baby carriages and diapers it could get back on financial track.

What happens to an area when they have a high influx of people moving into the area on public assistance? Not saying this has or is happening, but if all the publice assistance recievers relocated from the Bronx or Albany to Gloversville/Fulton County, How/Why is Gloversville/Fulton County expected to maintain a 2% increase and still keep other non-mandated services? MrBob I liked your idea, Stop paying the mandated issues and let's see what happens.

Here's the way I see it Barbara55, I look at the total amount of last years Town/County Tax bill and calculate how much a 2% increase will be. That is the amount that I send in, period. No more 'fun with numbers' games. If the %'age increase is less than 2% then great. This law was not meant to be 2% increase on every line item on the tax bill (there are 4 on my bill). Leave the core services for the communities alone, THAT is what we pay for to the benefit ALL citizens. Property taxes were not meant to be a paycheck for anybody.

Sorry, will mean a different increase in your taxes, depending on where you live. What's really sad is the supervisors believe we should be giving up all non mandated services. Soon we will be a community that can't help ourselves at all.

The interesting part of all this will be coming up soon, when the taxpayer realizes that 1. 2% is actually almost 4% increase that they can increase and 2. 2% increase to the county will me a different increase in your taxes, depending on where you are from.

I think most everyone foresaw that a work-around for this cap was going to be afoot before the law was even enacted. The question shouldn’t be whether to bypass the cap but how funded programs are going too adapted to operate within a tax freeze. The cap is not an act of normalcy but a sign of the severe damage being done to the citizens of New York by all the out of control taxation.

County's can throw off the medicaid burden by simply not providing the money Disco. The County's would lose the supplemental funding from NYS via Fed. Gov't., Lawyers will descend like vultures and confusion would be the order of the day. Meanwhile, both our County's would become a very undesirable place to live if you rely on DSS for your income. No change for the rest of us except we'll have a few more ducats in our pockets to support our own families. Tell me why that is a bad thing.

13% Medicaid increase alone! It's time the Gov. really looks at these free-bees to "do not want to work" people, so that the working class can support themselves first.

Agred. 2% means 2% and if I was a stuporvisor, I would feel obligated to the people that elected me to hold out for no percent no matter what got cut. BUT somehow our local politicians have to rebel against all the mandates & throw them off somehow. Meanwhile,at least keep voting incumbents out of office. It feels good.

Dear FulMont Supervisors: After reading a few articles last week where county supervisors found that 2% really means 4%(or more) I ask the supervisors 'what does the phrase 'tax-cap' mean on the planet you're from"?? On the other hand, because of the enormous medicaid and 'social programs, we have to fund, ALL our tax $$ are going into that black hole. There isn't enough to provide services to the residents that pay the bills. I echo what middle said and I'll add that they might get 2% and 2% ONLY, no more. Bill me, sue me do whatever you want, I'm done paying property taxes thru the nose and not getting anything but grief in return. Quit screwing with the taxpayers and CUT the entitlements 50%. You have my permission to **** off the moochers as much as you've ****** off the taxpayers. Sincerely: Broke

And I don't want to hear this is exempt and that is exempt. If it is over 2 percent let the Supervisors make up the difference out of their pockets.
