No pipe, both are losing students, though Gloversville at a slower pace than Johnstown. It's coming, whether people want it to or not.
As for the bragging rights thing, when Gloversville can beat Burnt Hills and/or Amsterdam by that wide a margin, then there'll be something to brag about.
The only way to improve that program is for the coaches and kids to make the commitment. Not from August 15th to the end of the season but the offseason. There are sacrifices that need to be made in the offseason to give your team a chance during the season...hence the ole saying "you get out of it what you put into it". The Johnstown program is in shambles, plain and simple! It was men vs. boys last Friday night I am afraid to say. Gloversville was BIGGER FASTER and STRONGER, Johnstown can get there , but it will take the commitment from all involved!! Until it gets competetive again, you cannot use the word RIVALRY! When it is one sided like it has been the last 5 times the game has been played, there is no feeling of rivalry at all!
There have been lopsided scores before on both sides, BUT never of this magnitude and JHS has never had a losing steak running multiple seasons. Maybe renewing the rivalry will be the spark needed to improve the JHS football program.
The score for one year doesn't matter in the big picture. Next year the score might be reversed. renewing the G'ville/J'town big game is great for both cities. Remember the old games? People taked about them for weeks and months at a time. So the score was lopsided. Boys will be boys. Keep the rivary going.
84-13 are you kidding me ?????? JHS football a doormat ??????? Maybe it is time for a coaching change - or how about some real students who REALLY want to play football. Coach Underwood is still around and at 87 he looked pretty good a couple of weeks ago. I know a bunch of really old guys who probably could have beaten GHS
There are rivalries all over the country where the schools are in different "conferences". The Johnstown-Gloversville football game is one of those. But it isonly worth playing if school spirit can be reestablished.I'm hearing that there is not much of that anymore.

lizzie - put the pipe down. The districts are way too big to merge into one. Using your logic -- maybe we could have one Fulton county high school.

Imagine the teams both schools could have if they "merged".....

Of course. Johnstown and Gloversville are separate cities.

I must have missed the debate about it in the 1st place. What's going on? Can anyone shed any light on this for me. Thanks.
