Ouch! I had my mother sign a big bunch of excuse notes before she expired. Whenever I don't want to do something, I still submit one. Who can argue with somebody's mother?

Another time, I faked being sick becuase I didn't have homework done for an English Class -right after lunch. The plan was to go to the Nurses Office for the period, feel better, and get on with the day. Trouble was I started to actually feel sick. At 6:30 pm I was in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy.

We did one like that in a college cafeteria....had a guy with a wide mouth hot water bottle with the top just below his neck filled with some smelly, spoiled chicken & gravy.....he acted sick, bent over and hit the bag so the mix came out......again cleared the table.

I was sent home for throwing up once, it was really oatmeal from breakfast I put in a plastic sandwich bag. I cleared out the lunch table.

I had a hidden lipstick that I'd paint my tomnsils with and claim to have a sore throat.

Well, if they are going to be home sick, they might as well do something useful...like rake the yard. That was my cure for being sick.

I can't believe I am saying this - I agree 100% with GoGreen. Sorry - GoGreen - you are now branded!

It is a good concept, however many parents send their sick kids to school because they don't have a babysitter (which is wrong). I realy don't care either way - when my child succeeds ie: good grade, perfect attendance, high honors etc., I reward her myself. A certificate will get hung on the frig for a week, placed in a drawer to maybe do something with and eventually forgotten. A dinner or day out with your child creates wonderful memories.

Why would you punish a child who does not get sick this year? I am sure that there would be some who will go to school when sick just to receive this award(There always is) but not all. Those kids deserve to have some kind of recognition for their efforts. If you ask me all this crap associated with and because of the swine flu is just that....CRAP! Stopping the award will not stop parents from sending sick children to school everyday just to have the nurse call them and send them back home.

on top of all that, those preprinted 4X6 cards are sooooooo expensive

No. It's not realistic. They should have imperfect attendance awards so everybody could get one. Also, they should have a running-with scissors award for kindergarteners and a not-working-up-to-capacity award tothe class dummy.

Oh no, awards are bad. They hurt the feelings of those who don't get the award and might affect their precious self-esteem.
