Dominic S. Papa

Mr. Dominic S. Papa, age 96, of Gloversville, passed away quietly at home after a long illness on August 26, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Dominic attended Gloversville schools and soon worked with his father, brothers and sisters in the glove industry, the family owned and operated Mario Papa & Sons, for several decades.

He was involved with many local organizations including the Gloversville Lions Club and the Fulton County National Bank. He was a Life Master bridge player and enjoyed teaching the game to others.

Dominic was an inspiration to his many friends and family.

Survivors include three children, Bridget A. Dailey of Connecticut, Anna Mary Kraemer of Massachusetts and John B. Papa Sr. of Mayfield; a brother and sister, Charles Papa (Beatrice) and Mary Russo of Gloversville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Dominic was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Angeline J. Castiglione Papa in 2012; also by two brothers and a sister, Alfonso Papa, Hortenzio Papa and Madeline Franco.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today, August 27, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St., Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant.

Entombment in the family mausoleum will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
