Triple Crown results announced

GLOVERSVILLE - Three local groups joined forces to raise money, promote their causes and increase tourism in Fulton County with the 5K Triple Crown presented by St. Mary's Healthcare.

Three 5K races were held on three different days resulting in one male and female grand champion. There were cash prizes and medals awarded and other prize drawings for those who entered the 5K Triple Crown.

The Glove Cities Rotary hosted the Run for the Roses 5K on May 3, starting from Partner's Pub in Johnstown.

Mountain Valley Hospice hosted the second 5K run on Preakness Weekend, May 18 at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown. This was followed by their annual walk.

Lexington hosted its 10th annual 5K race on the day of the Belmont Stake on June 7, starting from Lexington in Johnstown.

The 5k Triple Crown men's winner was Johnstown's Jeff Klingbeil with a combined time of 60:32, while Broadalbin's Emily Bertier was the women's overall winner with a combined time of 63:10.

Klingbeil also was the top finisher in the men's age 20-to-39 division, while Canajoharie's Elliot Shults (71:37 combined time) was second.

Bertier was the top finisher in the women's age 20-to-39 division, while Johnstown's Jen Hazzard (65:14) was second and Gloversville's Amy Goebel (73:32) was third.

In the men's age 19-and-younger division, Johnstown's Ben Lake (72:58) was first and Gloversville's Cayden King (87:35) was second.

Gloversville's Emma Goebel (74:29) won the women's age 19-and-younger division.

Fultonville's Brian Kearns (65:08) won the men's age 40-to-59 division, while Johnstown's Roy Mowrey (68:11) was second and Johnstown's Paul Rogers (69:49) was third.

In the women's age 40-to-59 division, Northville's Rebecca Conley (67:06) was first, Amsterdam's Lori Beck (73:05) was second and Gloversville's Toni Persch (80:56) was third.

All Triple Crown entries also were automatically entered to win prizes.

Darcy Izzo Schifferli won tickets to a New York Giants game, Elliott Shults won tickets to a New York Mets game, Rebecca Conley won a Whitewater rafting trip, Jennifer Martelle won box seats at Saratoga Race Course and Michael Kwiatowski won golf for four at Saratoga National Golf Course.

Other sponsors included Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce, Nathan Littauer Hospital, Olympia Sports, Road ID and Fulmont Roadrunners Club.
