Anna Grace (Carte) Geraghty, 81, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014, at home on Peck Lake surrounded by her loving family. Anna was born on June 29, 1933, to Ella Faye and Victor Bitler Carte in Servia, WV and raised in Gassaway, WV. After graduating high school at 17, her courage and spunk took her to Washington, D.C. to work for the FBI. She met her true love, Brendan, a few years later. His incredible charm and wit, along with his kind and generous nature, made him the perfect mate for Anna and they married and started a family in Washington. They moved their family of two girls and two boys to Brendan's hometown of Gloversville in 1960 and resided there until 1973. During this time, two more girls and boys were added for a tie of 4 girls and 4 boys. Anna, Brendan and family moved to Trotwood, OH and lived there until 1977. Their final child, a son, was born in Ohio and the tie was broken! Brendan's work next took the family to Massachusetts and they settled in Scituate in 1977 and lived there until 1998. Wherever she was, Anna created a loving home for her family that also served as a welcoming and accepting space for her children's friends. She also made a full life for herself, making close friends and engaging in activity and adventure including golf and going to plays, movies and concerts. Upon retirement, Anna and Brendan moved to Mount Pleasant, SC and lived there full time until 2004 when they relocated to Peck Lake. They continued to spend winters in Mt. Pleasant until 2012 where she had many deep friendships and wonderful connections. Anna was an active congregant of Christ our King Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant and her faith was a lifelong source of comfort and strength.
Anna was preceded in death by her siblings, Orlean Garcia, Victor B. Carte Jr., David Eugene Carte and Aaron Carte; and her granddaughter, Anna Marie Morgan.
Anna was the dearest and most beloved mother and grandmother, and she cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Brendan; and her sisters, Sharron Kalausich and Lavaun Lamb; her sisters-in-law, Rhoda, Dorothy and Fran Carte; her children, Colleen Geraghty, Brendan and Susan Geraghty, Kevin and Lisa Geraghty, Maureen Geraghty and Griff Morgan, Karen Geraghty and Carol Kelly, Michele and Frank Monteiro, John and Jennifer Geraghty, Jim and Erin Geraghty, Peter and Mary Kate Geraghty; grandchildren, Riley, Conor, Joe, Lena, Nora, Eva, Johnny, Paul, Maeve, Liam and Fiona; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Michael; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Anna Grace (Carte) Geraghty
Anna was a warm and loving person, a voracious reader, an engaging conversationalist, a consummate shopper, and a true friend. She had immense empathy for others, bucket loads of courage, a great sense of adventure, and there was no detail too small for her to offer an opinion. She never missed an opportunity to encourage and support others, and to tell them how special and loved they were.
