Kay married John E. "Jack" Cridland October 12, 1940, Johnstown, NY, residing much of their 73 years together in Sammonsville, where they raised their four children.

Kay worked on the family farm as a youth and over the years was employed at the following Johnstown businesses: Tot-N-Teen Shoppe, Juniorama of Johnstown, Knox Gelatin and Baronet Litho.

Kay was a member and former president of the Ladies Home Bureau. She was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and was honored by the Red Cross with a special citation for more than fifteen years of exceptional service. She also served on planning committees for the Johnstown Class of 1938 reunions. Kay was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a direct descendant of Sampson and Major Thomas Sammons, members of the Tryon County Militia.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; parents, EK and Ruth; brothers, Jacob, Clyde, Ernie; infant grandson Patrick Cridland.

Kay is survived by daughter, Michaele Beyer (Paul) of Ocala, FL; daughter, Nancy O'Leary (Edward) of Saratoga Springs, NY; son, Brian Cridland (Sue) of Caroga Lake; son, Sean Cridland (Sandra One Feather), of Jemez Springs, NM; her grandchildren, Heather O'Leary, Meg O'Leary Estevadeordal (Jordi), Kyle Cridland (Tiffany), Erin Cridland; her great-grandchildren, Laia and Mireia Estevadeordal; and her nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family echoes son Sean Cridland's remembrances: "About a year ago, we lost our dad. Today we lost our mom, age 93, after a long, good life. Always the dutiful wife, who raised kids while my dad was off at war or following his passion for skiing. Or following him around to his canoe races. Or waiting patiently when he was getting his pilot's license at age 70. She was the model of domesticity. I didn't wear a store-bought pair of socks till I was 25 because she knitted them all - and for my brother and sisters too - and beautiful ski-sweaters too. Her countless hooked rugs were fantastic and beautiful. Baked all the family's bread. Made Christmas more Christmasy with cookies and fruit-cakes. She worked a variety of jobs and always presented herself with style and grace. Supported any kind of crazy adventure I went on - often worried to death but never admitting it - including driving me up into the Adirondacks on a school day so I could get in one more of the 46 before winter came. Gave freely of her time as a volunteer for the Red Cross Bloodmobile and was always generous to a fault. My friends always said that she had the youngest phone-voice, even in her late 80s. She was a Sammons from Sammonsville. Even though I haven't seen her in a long time, I'll miss her. Goodbye, Mom."

Visitation for friends and family will be on Wednesday, August 6, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the friends, neighbors and caregivers who have helped through the years.
