Joseph E. Putman, age 86, of Fonda, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility, Amsterdam.
He was born on December 23, 1927, in Johnstown, a son of the late Arthur Putman and Myrtle Ortell Putman.
Joseph honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a mechanic by trade, working at the former Corllett & Managan, the former Garlock's Cadillac-Oldsmobile Inc. and lastly at Lane Construction until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Putman is survived by his wife, Shirley Moran Putman, whom he married on September 29, 1950; two sons, Larry (Gloria) Putman of Fort Johnson and Lavern Putman of Fonda; one sister, Nettie Haywood; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown, with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Monday, July 28, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, with military honors.
