Ernest E. Bentley Jr., age 79, of Johnstown passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at his residence.
He was born on October 28, 1934, in Johnstown, a son of the late Ernest E. Bentley Sr. and Theresa Svec Bentley.
Ernest worked for many years at Independent Leather until his retirement in 1993. He was an avid bowler who enjoyed watching baseball, especially his beloved Yankees and traveling to Indian Lake for camping trips with family. Mr. Bentley also enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, watching old movies including John Wayne westerns, visiting Turning Stone Casino and playing pool at the Johnstown Senior Center, where he was a member. Ernest was also a member of the Johnstown Eagles.

Mr. Bentley is survived by one son, Ernest E. Bentley of Johnstown; three daughters JoAnn (Mark) Miller of Johnstown, Donna (John) Goot of Johnstown and Linda (Anthony) Perkins of Fort Plain; eleven grandchildren: Greg, Tonya, Becky, Heather, Mark, Joseph, John Lewis, Mary, Matt, Audreyanna and Eric; seven great-grandchildren: Jack, Chloe, Colleen, Jacob, Kade, Brooke and Marleigh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his wife Audrey J. Luft Bentley, who he married on December 12, 1953 and she passed on October 5, 2009 after 55 years of marriage and his two brothers, Paul "Bunky" Bentley and Louis Bentley.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 21 at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown with Rev. David Almleaf officiating.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Monday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
