Richard ‘Dick’ Knapp

Richard "Dick" Knapp of Bonham, Texas, passed away at the Clyde W. Cooper Veterans Home on June 22, 2014.

Dick was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on Sept. 29, 1935. His parents, Alice and Robert Knapp are both deceased.

Dick attended Gloversville schools. He entered the U.S. Air Force in December 1954 and was honorably discharged in October 1958.

Dick worked as a heavy equipment opeator for over 40 years. After retiring he worked as a volunteer for the Eisenhower State Park in Denison, Texas for over 10 years.

Dick enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved to go dancing, fishing, old cars, hunting and conversing with old friends.

While Dick was stationed in Minnesota, he met his former wife, Shirley Martens of Minnesota. They married and have one son, Douglas Knapp of Lake Wilson, Minn.

In addition to his son, Doug and former wife, Shirley, he is survived by a grandson, Chad; sister, Helen Knapp Sweet of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Gloversville; nephew, Bobby (Ana) Sweet of Indiana.

Dick was married to Faye Schleisman of Templeton, Iowa. She passed June 11, 2012.

Dick will be sadly missed by his good friends, the Walnut Street Gang: Gary Goodemote of Iowa, Jim, Bill, Sally and Doug and Rick VanNostrand, Joe Parker, Tom Olmstead, Marvel, John, Dave Johnson, John Wentworth and Ilene Knowles.

A service will be held at a date yet to be determined.
