FONDA - The Fonda-Fultonville Central School District Board of Education set several price points for the upcoming school year, and welcomed two new members to the board during Monday night's annual organizational meeting.
The district's lunch prices will rise by 10 cents for the 2014-15 school year. Prices for milk and breakfast will remain the same.
District treasurer Carey Shultz said this increase was due to increased food costs for items such as meat and dairy.
The district may also begin looking at options for its middle and high school breakfast programs.
Shultz said while many elementary students use the breakfast program, the higher grade level students are not using it in great numbers.
He said the district is billed for expected usage by students from the meal company, Chartwells, and since students aren't using it the district is losing money on the program.
Meal prices at the Fonda-
Fultonville School District for the 2014-15 school year will be as follows:
Milk: 70 cents.
Elementary school lunch: $2.05.
Middle school lunch: $2.15.
High school lunch: $2.30.
The breakfast program is open to all students.
Shultz said the district has been trying a variety of different options to get middle and high school students to eat breakfast, including offering items like smoothies.
Shultz said that at the high school level, kids want something they can eat quickly.
The board also voted to keep the current out-of-district tuition rate at $4,117 a year.
District Clerk Lori Coons said the district currently has six students from four different families from outside the district attending Fonda-Fultonville schools.
The board said they did not want to raise the cost to these families.
Also during the meeting, new board members Michael Lewis and Dennis Egelston took their oaths of office. The two men were voted onto the board during the May elections.
The board chose Matt Sullivan as the new board president and Bonnie Couture as the new board vice president.
The board also set the meeting schedule for the 2014-15 school year. The board will meet on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m, with a few exceptions.
For the months of October and May, they will meet on the third Tuesday. In December the meeting will be on the third Monday of the month.
The board will meet next for its regular monthly meeting July 28 at 6:30 p.m.
