Wells club conducts annual meeting

WELLS - The Wells Senior Citizens Club had its annual meeting June 11, with 33 members present. President Alice Megargle gave a review of the activities that took place during the previous year. The officers elected for the coming year are: Paula Margies, president for the summer with Alice Megargle substituting in winter; George Lancaster, vice president; Sandy Orr, secretary; Jo Duryea, treasurer; Edna Rew, assistant secretary-treasurer.

Dolores Margies, Betty Lou Orr and Grace Lizak were given hanging flowers for their services during the previous year. Those continuing on the board were also acknowledged.

In May:

- At the club business meeting, Bill Napes gave a presentation on dehydration and 10 edible plants that can be used to make tea. Also, Superintendent Thomas Sincavage and Principal Jeremy Siddon, both of Wells Central School, discussed school issues. The club also sponsored an AARP Smart Driver Course with Ray Hatch, instructor, and 19 participants. There also was a pie and ice-cream social at the Hope Diner with 34 participants.

- There was a banquet and celebration at Lake George for Pete and Rose Simons and others. They were awarded Senior Citizen of the Year and Contributing Senior of the Year for Hamilton County by the Warren-Hamilton County Office of the Aging. More than 50 people from the Wells area attended including the Simons family members.

The group just finished a three-day trip with 41 seniors to the Gettysburg Battlefield as well as the Sight & Sound Theatre at Lancaster, Pa., to see "Moses." The travel committee has several trips planned including: On Thursday, lunch at the Culinary Institute of America and a visit to the Roosevelt Home and Museum; On Aug. 21, a matinee show at the Mac Haydn Theater and lunch in Chatham, Columbia County; From Sept. 21 to Oct 5, a New England and Canada cruise on the Celebrity Summit leaving Cape Liberty, N.J., enroute to Quebec City and back to New Jersey, with stops along the way

The next regular business meeting will take place at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at the meal site.
