Eleanor J. Papierniak

Eleanor J. Papierniak, 78, of Fonda, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2014, at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY, on April 19, 1936, she is the daughter of the late Walter and Kathryn Brownell Hemstreet.

Eleanor is a lifetime resident of the area and attended Perth School. She married Daniel Papierniak on February 19, 1954. Together they started a family and she cared for her children and home. He predeceased her on December 7, 1993.

Eleanor enjoyed going traveling and camping with her husband in their motor home. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family and will be sorely missed. She is a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

Survivors include beloved children, Kenneth (Rebecca) Papierniak of Olive Bridge, NY, Kathy (Peter) Zimmerman of Tavares, FL; and a daughter-in-law, AnnMarie Papierniak of Fonda, NY; beloved grandchildren, Peter Zimmerman V. (Dorotha Frieszell), Sara McDowell (Christopher), Daniel Papierniak, Megan Lynch (John), Theresa Naske (Mark Manganiello) and Rachel (Keith) Hughes; a great-grandson, Warren Daniel Zimmerman. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Hemstreet (Julie), Joan VanBrocklin, John Hemstreet (Sally), Mary Lou Kristie (Jerry), James Hemstreet (Barbara) and Harvey Hemstreet (Donna); sisters-in-law, Kathy Parker, and Elaine (Ray) Mason; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald D. Papierniak.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, June 29, 2014, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Betz Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 30, 2014, at 9 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50 Cornell St., Amsterdam, with the Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Hagaman. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205, or the St. Stanislaus Church, 50 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
