Louis Franco

Louis Franco, 96, of Gloversville, passed away to join his beloved wife, Madeline on Monday, June 23, 2014. Louis was born on March 7, 1918, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John and Louise Carangelo Franco. Louis attended Gloversville schools, and went on to work for Mario Papa and Sons, retiring after many years of service. He was married to the late Madeline Papa Franco for 67 wonderful years.

Louis is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Michael Hornung of Gloversville; devoted grandfather to Michael (Jean) Hornung of Frisco, TX, John (Samantha) Hornung of Ashland, MA, and Elizabeth (Eric) Crockton of Watertown, MA; and doting great-grandfather to Michael, Lily, Madeline, Jackson, Abigail, Olivia and Avaree Louise. Louis is also survived by his loving sister, Mary Simboli of Newbury, MA; brothers-in-law, Dominic Papa, Charles (Bea) Papa, his sisters-in-law, Mary Russo and Shirley Papa, all of Gloversville; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, James Franco; and sisters, Anna Salvione and Sophie Caporossi.

Louis will be remembered for his kind and gentle soul, his compassion for others, and always having a smile. He loved his family dearly and his family was everything to him. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought much love and joy to his life. He also cherished and loved all his nieces and nephews, who in turn, enjoyed his company and were forever touched by his generosity and love. He also loved all his neighbors, who became like family to him over the years.

Louise and Michael would also like to thank Dr. Pesses, the staffs at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Wells Nursing Home, CHC, and the Mountain Valley Hospice for their compassion, support and kindness shown to Louis and the family.

Louis was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Holy Name Society, and a past member of Concordia Club.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main Street, Gloversville. A prayer service will be held on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Interment will take place at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N. Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or to a charity of one's choice.
