Clarification

June 18, 2014
Leader Herald

A story published Monday regarding election machines in Johnstown schools requires clarification. District Clerk Larraina Carpenter clarified there is no requirement that schools acquire optical-scan voting machines by December. She also said a state school boards official indicated legislators are not hearing schools complain about switching to optical machines. Carpenter said optical-scan machine-printed ballots might require 7,300 ballots on hand for about 6,700 voters at a $4,000 cost. Carpenter asked the school board if it wanted her to contact state Sen. Hugh Farley and Assemblyman Marc Butler regarding the issue.
