Gerald S. Hill

Gerald S. Hill, 81, of Salisbury, NY, went to be with his wife, Patricia G. Hill, on Thursday morning, June 12, 2014, at his home.

Gerald was born on April 13, 1933, in Ephratah, NY, a son of the late Ray and Ellen (Gray) Hill. He was a graduate of Johnstown High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the Korean War.

On January 24, 1959, Gerald was united in marriage to Patricia G. Hill at the Dolgeville Methodist Church. They shared 54 blessed years together until her passing on March 7, 2013.

Gerald was a life-long carpenter by trade, working for himself with his own construction company. He was also once the proprietor of the Emmonsburg Grill in Stratford, NY, for many years. Lastly, Gerald was employed as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Ephratah for 16 years until his retirement.

Gerald was a former member of the R.G.L. Fire Department. He enjoyed carpentry, the woods, log cutting, hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors at his family's camp on Crystal Lake in Stratford. Recently, Gerald enjoyed reconnecting with his old friends at the coffee shop in Caroga Lake. His most precious time was that spent with his family and will be missed by all who knew him.

Gerald is survived by his beloved six children; his two daughters, Betty Daley Cool (Marc), Tammy Hill; his four sons, Rodney Daley (Pam), Robert Daley (Lori), Gerald Hill, Jr. (Cheryl) and Todd Hill (Jennell); a daughter-in-law, Jackie Hill; two sisters-in-law, Bessie Davis and Maggie Denopole; twenty-six grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his beloved son, Scott Hill Sr., in 2003.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours on Monday, June 16, 2014, at 7 p.m., also at the funeral home with the Rev. R. W. Williams, pastor, officiating.
