Michael J. McNamara Sr, 53, of Mayfield, known to many as "Hound Dog" passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2014 with his family at his side.
Michael was born in Amsterdam, the son of the late John and Elizabeth McNamara. He enlisted in the US Army following high school graduation in 1978, stationed at Fort Riley, KS and served in West Germany. He was employed at Quandt's Food Service for over twenty years, and most recently at Robinson & Smith.
He was an avid fisherman, spending most winters on the hard water targeting Northern Pike. He loved life, living "like there was no tomorrow." He loved hosting friends and family, from simple nights relaxing by a fire to holding "brews-n-shoes" horseshoe tournaments. He was a great cook, and a master of the grill. Though his time here was cut all too short, he will forever be remembered in celebration.
He is survived by his son, Michael J. McNamara Jr. and his wife Sheena; daughter Dr. Jennifer Park and her husband David; daughter Heather McNamara and her boyfriend Adam; his girlfriend Dana Keller and her son Cameron; his sister Michele Auriemma and her husband Michael; grandson Michael III; granddaughters Riley and Sydney; nephew Nicholas Auriemma; niece Katie Capone and her husband John; great nieces Giana and Kaelyn; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and his beloved, gentle pitbull Lizzie whom he called his "soulmate."
At Mike's request there will be no services but a celebration of his life at 4 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014 at the home of Mike & Michele Auriemma, 197 Truax Road in Amsterdam. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Great Sacandaga Lake Fisheries Federation Inc., P.O. Box 991, Northville, NY 12134. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Please sign the family online guestbook at www.brbsfuneral.com
