Elizabeth "Betty" Bestvina, 84, of Gloversville, passed away June 6, 2014 at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was born May 17, 1930 in Caroga Lake, N.Y., daughter of the late Clinton and Catherine Spencer Lane. Betty graduated Wheelerville School in Caroga Lake and continued her education at FMCC and SUNY Potsdam majoring in English.
An avid reader, Betty also was an accomplished artist by hobby. She was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Fulton County Infirmary for 22 years. Devoted to her family, Betty especially loved time with her grandchildren. She extended her love and compassion through the countless organizations she regularly donated to, especially St. Jude's and was an active member of the North Bush United Methodist Church. She will be truly missed.
She is survived by three daughters: Rose Day (John) of Colorado Springs, CO, Teresa Erskine (Edward) of Benson, and Amy Gagne (Brian) of Bleecker. She is also survived by four brothers; Marvin Lane of Glen, Steven Lane of Edinburg, David Lane of Gloversville and LeRoy Lane of Bleecker. Betty leaves eight grandchildren; Bo Bestvina, Meadow Erskine, Seamus Erskine, Katie Erskine, Dana Gagne, Colleen Gagne, Kristel Day, Carson Day, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Louis Bestvina Jr. and Robert Bestvina.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, June 21, 2014 at the North Bush United Methodist Church, North Bush Road, Caroga Lake, with Reverend Kathy L. Reese, pastor, officiating. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
