Doris B. Subik

Doris B. Subik, 84, of Sammonsville, N.Y., passed away suddenly on May 22, 2014, at Nathan Littauer Hospital. Mrs. Subik was born July 9, 1929, in Johnstown, N.Y., the daughter of Milton and Marion Oare Baird Sr.

Mrs. Subik was the personification of life. She could make friends anywhere and had friends seemingly everywhere. She was actively involved with helping and supporting the members of her family every single day of her adult life. She is irreplaceable and her presence will be sorely missed.

She was united in marriage in 1951, to her beloved husband Robert A. Subik, who passed away in 1998.

She was a graduate of Johnstown High School. She was known by many in the community for her 15 years employed as secretary to the principal of Warren Street School. She retired in 1981 but spent many years after that serving the Johnstown School District as a substitute secretary.

Mrs. Subik was a member of Holy Trinity Church, the Johnstown Senior Center and was a former member of the Home Bureau.

She is survived by her sons, Robert M. (Cathie VanAlstyne) Subik of Johnstown and James J. (Tammie) Subik of Caroga Lake. She was predeceased by her youngest son William "Bill" Subik who died in 2012.

She is also survived by her brother, Milton Baird Jr.; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown, N.Y. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church, Johnstown, N.Y. Interment will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizens Center in Johnstown or the Sammonsville Volunteer Fire Department.
