Irene V. Sowle, 87, of State Route 29, Galway, died Wednesday afternoon, April 30, 2014, at the Fulton Center for Rehabilitation & Health Care, Gloversville.
She was born in Amsterdam on September 6, 1926, a daughter of Ralph and Elsie Stanton Ouderkirk, and attended local schools. Irene lived in Galway most of her life.
She was employed in the laundry department at the former Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for thirteen years, retiring several years ago.
Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon (Eileen) Sowle of Duanesburg and Richard (Susan) Sowle of Galway; a daughter, Diane Sowle of Galway; four grandchildren, Shannon (Michael) Harmon, Jeremy (Gabby) Sowle, Brittany (Michael) Yannucci, and Liza Sowle (Craig); three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106, Johnstown.
