Mr. Douglas W. Edwards, age 52, of Gloversville, died Sunday, April 27, 2014, at Albany Medical Center after sustaining injuries in a motorcycle accident on Friday in Gloversville.

He was born August 25, 1961, in Gloversville, the son of Roger and Nila Rhodes Edwards. A 1979 graduate of Mayfield Central School, he became a firefighter for the Gloversville Fire Dept. in 1982. He became chief of the department in 2007 and retired in 2010 due to illness.

Doug was a member of the Foothills United Methodist Church, the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, the New York State Career Fire Chiefs and the National Ski Patrol. He enjoyed working with Clydesdale horses as a hobby and loved going to the beach at the Jersey Shore. He also coached cross-country skiing, junior varsity boys baseball and modified girls softball at Mayfield Central School.

He was married June 21, 1986, to ConnieJo King Edwards, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Desiree Capobianco (Kevin) of Gloversville, Christine Angus (Ash) of Johnstown, Jamie Edwards of Troy and Matthew Edwards of Gloversville; his parents, Roger and Nila Edwards of Gloversville; a sister, Marcia St. Clair (Jeff) of Naperville, IL; four grandchildren, Jordan Capobianco, Tyler Douglas Capobianco, Kaileigh Angus and Ethan Angus; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including special cousins, Barbara DeLuca and Bill Rhodes.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. today, May 1, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Foothills United Methodist Church, 17 Fremont St., Gloversville.

Interment will take place at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
