Mrs. Mary T. Opalka, 97, formerly of Norris Street, Amsterdam, N.Y., passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
She was born October 27, 1916, in Amsterdam, N.Y., a daughter of the late John and Tekla Skowronek Mason. She attended local schools and was a lifelong resident.
For many years, she was employed by the Amsterdam Printing Company. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Ladies Rosary Society. She was also a member of the St. Stanislaus Pierogi Angels and the Inman Senior Citizens.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great 'Babci'.
She was married to John F. Opalka on September 9, 1939. He died May 2, 2005. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter.
Survivors include her children, John (Patricia) Opalka of Fort Johnson, N.Y., Robert (Shirley) Opalka of Wells, N.Y. and Joanne (John) Sierzega of Amsterdam, N.Y.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one niece, one nephew and cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, with the Rev. O. Robert De Martinis, celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetary. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today, April 28, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Rosary Society service at 5:15 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 46 Cornell St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
