Mr. Kested was born January 20, 1923, in Gloversville, son of the late Benjamin and Mary Frank Kested. Don was educated in Gloversville schools and graduated Gloversville High School. He served in the Navy from 1942-1946 as a pharmacist's mate, which included tours of duty in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters. Only recently, Don received numerous medals from that action. He considered it a special privilege to have recently participated in the Honor Flight Program.
Upon completion of military service, Don began his career at General Electric in Schenectady. He worked in the steam turbine division as a valve assembly technician, and was very proud of his work. Earlier in life, Don was a member of the Yellow Jackets Drum & Bugle Corps of the American Legion. Some of his hobbies include deep sea fishing, collecting replica model trains and cars and playing cards or horseshoes. Devoted to his church, Don held numerous offices throughout his 81 years of church membership. He also was a choir member, usher and participated in the afterschool program and Bible study. Don was a former member of the Merchant's Bowling League and the Forester's Lodge. A loving family man, perhaps his greatest enjoyment was activities with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Rekemeyer Kested of Gloversville, whom he married October 25, 1947.
