Josephine "Josie" M. Rovazzini, age 92, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (formerly of Johnstown), passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Harrisburg Hospital.
She was born on October 7, 1921, in Johnstown, a daughter of the late Paul Oliver and Dominica "Minnie" Brunetto Oliver.
Josephine was a class of 1940 graduate of Johnstown High School. After high school, she worked at her parent's store, Oliver's Chief Food and Garden Center, where she made ice cream during World War II. She also worked for her brother-in-law Tom and sister Carmie's store, Sands Market in Johnstown. She graduated from the Spencer Business School, Schenectady, and worked as a comptroller at Crescendoe and Superb Gloves. Mrs. Rovazzini was then employed as a bookkeeper for M. Schenkel Fine Leather until retiring in 1997.
She was of the Catholic faith, a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church and also ran the church's Friday night bingo games with Mr. Peter Raneri. Mrs. Rovazzini also served on the Johnstown Board of Education for eight years and was a past president of the Warren Street School PTA. Josie was a proud breast cancer survivor who was known for baking her famous carrot cake and truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Diane) Rovazzini of Johnstown; one daughter, Deborah A. (Timothy, Sr.) Callahan of Harrisburg; one brother, Joseph J. Oliver of Clearwater, Florida; five grandchildren, Amanda Rovazzini, Nicholas Rovazzini, Tara Callahan, Shannon Callahan and Timothy Callahan, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Jolene; six nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Josephine was predeceased by three sisters, Lena Giove, Carmie Sands and Nina Minardo.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 28, at Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Sunday, April 27, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown.
