April is a busy month at the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce. Along with our normal array of events we offer to our members - such as educational seminars, Eggs & Issues breakfasts, Tuesday Tours, and Business After Hours - the chamber will be conducting three special events this month that benefit everyone in our region, in addition to benefiting our members.
The first event is the chamber's Business Expo that will be held on Thursday, April 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Alpin Haus on Route 5S in Amsterdam. The event offers free admission and is open to the public. This great event will afford everyone in our region the opportunity to discover the great variety of products and services available to them through our great chamber member businesses. With over 40 businesses participating, there is no need to travel outside of our region to get anything you need for your business or for your personal needs. You will recognize the vast array of products and services available right at your fingertips, close by, but most importantly, available locally. In many cases, you can meet with the owners and transact business right on the spot. Some of the businesses will even be offering show discounts and specials.
As for the participating chamber members, they can boost sales and promote their offerings, while at the same time interact with other businesses and with the public and see more people in one day than they might see come through their doors in a month's time. So, please take the time to come out and visit and meet and greet - and network at the same time.
There will be special prizes and giveaways throughout the show. There are also a couple of booth spaces available for any chamber member business wishing to take advantage of this great opportunity to "strut their stuff."
Another great event that the chamber is spearheading this month, that benefits all in the community, is the annual "Fulton Montgomery Clean Up Day."
As I had mentioned a couple of columns ago, spring is when the snow melts and exposes "the need to clean," and this designated day brings out hundreds of volunteers to pick up trash and garbage, sweep the streets, paint and spruce up.
From civic groups to businesses, cleanup crews are being organized to come out on April 26 from 9 a.m. to noon for this effort. The chamber will supply safety vests, garbage grabbers, garbage bags, and gloves and will arrange for trash drop-off points. If you or your group would like to take part in this great initiative, please call the chamber at 725-0641.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention two other great cleanup efforts taking place the same day and weekend - in the city of Amsterdam (see the city's Facebook page for details), and Canal Clean Sweep at the Fort Hunter area/Schoharie Crossing or in Canajoharie. We are also encouraging participation in these efforts also.
And, for those of you that would like to be part of our great organization, which is the leading voice of business in the region, the chamber will be conducting a membership drive from April 24 through May 9. The Membership Drive will be led by the members of the chamber's board of directors who will be captains of teams that include chamber member volunteers.
These chamber salespeople will be calling and stopping by at some of our region's businesses to provide them with information about the chamber and the many benefits that we offer to our member businesses.
There will be special incentives for businesses to join the chamber during this drive.
Please call us for details about membership. And, remember, the chamber is a great investment for your business, and for our region.
Mark Kilmer is the president of the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce.
