Robert L. Gay

Mr. Robert L. Gay, age 88, a Caroga Lake resident for fifty years, passed away on Sunday, April 13 2014, at the Glen Highland Meadows Independent Living in Queensbury, NY.

He was born on June 19, 1925, in Gloversville, NY, the son of the late Cecil L. and Blanche D. Smith Gay. Robert was a 1943 graduate of Gloversville High School. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific as a seaman first class from 1945 to 1946. Robert was a tanner for the former Twin City Leather of Gloversville, retiring in 1982. He was the former owner and operator of the Xmas Tree Lodge in Caroga Lake from 1982 to 1989. Robert was a member of the Nick Stoner snow machine club and the American Legion of Northville, NY. He loved camping, snowmobiling, sailing and spending time with his family.

He was married to the former Doris E. (Ricky) Richter on Jan.7, 1950, and she passed away on March7, 2000. He was also predeceased by one brother, Herbert Gay. Survivors include one son, Ronald Gay (Cherryl) of Caroga Lake; and two daughters, Sharyn Bovee (Thomas) of Ducan, SC. and Barbara Falzarine (Peter) of Canajoharie, NY. Also survived by his companion, Eleanor Guiles; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home Inc., 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Creamation will take place at the Park View Crematory, Schenectady NY.
