Archibald E. Plantz, age 83 of Amsterdam, passed away on Friday evening, April 11, 2014, at home, surrounded by his family.
Born on September 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Archibald W. and Anna Etherton Plantz.
He was a 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School.
Mr. Plantz was first employed with the former BIG N store in Amsterdam, until that store was purchased by Ames and he was transferred to the Ames store in Palatine Bridge, where he worked for 39 years until his retirement in 2002.
He was a former member of the Johnstown Loyal Order of Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Dillenbeck Plantz, who he married on July 3, 1987; two sons, Kenneth Avery and Carl (Gail) Avery; one grandson, Carl (BillieJo) Avery Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Christine Avery and Sarah Avery; a nephew, Ken Stutzki; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Plantz was predeceased by a sister, Mae Swarnowicz.
Funeral services will be conducted at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 1:00 p.m.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
