Veronica W. Nicholas, age 64, of Johnstown, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 17, 1949, in Gloversville, a daughter of the late William R. Wormuth and Wilma Franko Wormuth.
Veronica was a graduate of Bishop Burke High School and attended the Central City Business Institute. In her earlier years, she worked at the former St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady and then was employed at St. Mary's Hospital as a medical transcriptionist for 28 years until her retirement. She was of the Catholic faith, a communicant of the Holy Trinity Church, a member of Liturgy Committee and a past member of the church choir. Mrs. Nicholas was also a past member of the Women of the Moose, Johnstown. Veronica was the mother of all the "hooligans" on Warden Street.
She is survived by her husband, George Nicholas, whom she married on July 17, 1976; four sons, Thomas Nicholas of Johnstown, Theodore Nicholas of Johnstown, Christopher (Amanda) Nicholas of Cazenovia and Nicholas Nicholas of Albany; one brother, William C. Wormuth of Johnstown; three sisters, Patricia (Lee) Lanois, Beverly W. McGivern and Julianne Wormuth, all of Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, at Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, April 7, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.
Spring interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown.
In Veronica's memory, the Nicholas Family would ask for donations of blood to a local blood bank.
