Ruben B. Hoffman, 81, left this earth peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility following a long illness.
He was born in Brookville, Pa., on September 1, 1932, a son of Allen and Kesia Moore Hoffman, and graduated from Brookville High School. Mr. Hoffman attended Clarion State College before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he proudly served from 1953-1955. Ruben lived in Fonda for over forty years before moving to Broadalbin in 2008.
He was employed as a gas turbine inspector at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
Ruben enjoyed sports and hunting. He also raised American Walker coon hounds.
He was married to Helen Neuhard Hoffman on June 23, 1957. She died on July 13, 2006.
Survivors include his daughter, Helen (David) Abrams of Amsterdam; a sister, Katherine Hottel of Sigel, Pa.; two grandsons, David and Michael Abrams; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A calling hour will be held on Monday from 4 to 5 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 5 p.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street), Johnstown, with Linda Eastman, caretaker of Hemlock Independent Gospel Church in North Broadalbin, presiding. Final burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Galway at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.
