JOHNSTOWN - A business at the Fulton County Airport is planning pancake breakfasts this year and a concert this summer to promote the airport and give back to the community.
Grandma Millie's Bakery & Cafe this week requested the county approve two applications to use the airport.
The applications were approved by the Board of Supervisors' Buildings and Grounds-Highway Committee Monday, and will be reviewed by the full board April 14.
Bakery owner Chauncey McCormick said Tuesday she's actually planning two additional unnamed events this summer at the airport.
"We have a beautiful bakery at a beautiful airport and we want everybody to see it," McCormick said.
County Planning Director James Mraz told the committee Grandma Millie's wants to hold pancake breakfasts on the third Saturday of each month - between May and October. A buffet breakfast would be available to local residents who drive to the airport off Route 67 and to pilots who fly into the airport.
"Breakfast fly-ins is a popular event at smaller municipal airports like this," Mraz said. "This is something Grandma Millie's is doing to promote the airport."
Mraz said a Grandma Millie's will have a 260-square-foot tent erected adjacent to the restaurant building that will remain in place from May through October of this year. The tent will be on the north side of the building. He said musical entertainment - an individual guitar player or singer - may perform.
Mraz said Grandma Millie's also wants to sponsor a music concert at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Grandma Millie's tent at the airport. The concert will feature Walt Wilkins and the Mytiqueros Band, which he said plays folk, bluegrass and country music. He said McCormick personally knows Wilkins from Texas.
Grandma Millie's will offer a Texas barbecue dinner that evening, Mraz said. He said McCormick indicated the bakery's staff will clean the area at the end of the concert.
"She's guessing at an attendance of approximately 200," he said.
Mraz said he urged McCormick to communicate with airport manager William Milton about the concert and "she assured me she would do that."
TLC network's "Bakery Boss" show starring Buddy Valastro was filmed last October at Grandma Millie's Bakery. McCormick said she doesn't know when the show will air.
"It will be coming," McCormick said.
Dustin Smith, a spokesman for Discovery Communications, indicated Tuesday that TLC doesn't "have a formal air date yet, but [it plans] to premiere new episodes of Bakery Boss this summer."
