Donald J. Willett, age 79, of Gloversville died peacefully Friday evening, March 28, 2014, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

Donald was born July 31, 1934, in New York City, the son of the late Donat and Edna Willett.

While being legally blind, Donald enjoyed reading and learning from talking books. He was a Lionel train collector, a lover of astronomy and science, a master of electronics, and most of all, he loved his collection of Big Band, Doo Wop and Jazz music. He loved to dance, attend parties and to spend time telling stories of his days growing up in New York City.

Donald is survived by three children: Kevin Willett (Deborah) of Johnstown, Donna Childs (Jeffery) and Lori Raynor, both of Gloversville; his siblings, Madeline Mitchell (Richard) and Paul Willett (Jennie); 13 grandchildren, Orion Childs (Tara), Audrey Hitchens (Alvin), Derek Childs, Christopher Cole (Cathy), Elizabeth, Erin and Maddie Willett, Thomas Raynor (Christina), Courtney Wood (Willis), Nicole Primeau, Jessica Hanson (Patrick), Landon Willett and Ceilia Willett; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Donald was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Lorraine Willett, his sons, Alan and Steven Willett, brother, Joseph Willett, and sisters Jeanette Willett, Teresa Melton, Constance Chindalas and Rita Harrigan.

There are no calling hours per his request.

A time of remembrance will take place at Mountain Valley Hospice on Friday, April 4, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. for family members.

Per Donald, the Mountain Valley Hospice staff were his "Angels."

Interment will be at Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
