Alice Karlson Suffern died in Knoxville, TN, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, with her daughter Carolyn Suffern at her side. She was the daughter of Charles Bennett and Mildred Sawyer Karlson. She was born on August 4, 1916, in Rye Beach, NH, where her maternal ancestors settled in the 17th century and where she will be buried.
She was a graduate of Smith College and was married to Edward Greene Suffern in 1941. He preceded her in death in 1999.
In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, Edward Sheridan Suffern of Salem, NH; and identical twin grandsons, Edward Suffern Johnson, wife Vanessa and children Matthew and Katherine of Washington, DC; and Stephen Walker Johnson and wife Kimberly of Canton, CT.
Funeral services will be private.
