Irene C. Zimmerman, age 92, of Gloversville, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Fulton Center for Rehabilitation & Health Care.
Born on September 12, 1921, in Gloversville, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Edna Steeves Jones.
Mrs. Zimmerman was employed as a glove sewer working from her home. She was later employed at the former Fulton County Silk Mill in Gloversville until her retirement.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gloversville, where she served as a Sunday school teacher.
Irene was an avid quilter and gardener. She especially enjoyed tending to her flowers.
On June 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Calvin R. Zimmerman and he died on December 22, 2000. She was also predeceased by her brother, Richard Jones, who passed on March 2000.
Survivors include her children, Mark (Wendy) Zimmerman of Mayfield, Wayne (Robyn) Zimmerman of Kingston, Karen (Robert) Olson of Queensbury and Gail (David) Stahl of Mayfield; two sisters, Beverly Lowenthal of Georgia and Doris Gifford of Virginia; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday prior to the services from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
