To all town of Johnstown residents: Are you aware that the "new" Town Board, apparently being led by one member, has made it its goal to destroy the Highway Department and its workers?
The highway department has the only employees who work all hours of the day, night and weekends, including holidays. Now the board wants to "punish" them by taking away overtime pay.
Well, you tell me who wants to work on Christmas, Thanksgiving, during their child's school activities, etc.? There have been many years our highway employees have missed many of these holidays so the roads were safe for the rest of you, including board members, to enjoy your holidays with family.
Just to clarify, I do not have anything to gain or lose from this OT issue because my husband, your highway superintendent, works 24 hours a day without any compensation above his salary, oftentimes saving the town overtime money. I can't say the same about any of the board members or any of the other Town Hall employees.
I urge all town residents to take an interest in our town and attend a board meeting or two. You will be enlightened, or maybe discouraged. There are certainly other areas where cuts could be made and it doesn't take much to see them. Please do not let the board take away anything more from the very hard-working employees of the town of Johnstown Highway Department. It is the residents who will be most affected in the end.
Let your voices be heard. The next meeting is scheduled for March 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.
