Bessie (Vasiliki) Julius, 90, of 134 E. Montgomery St., Johnstown, NY, peacefully passed away Sunday night March 2, 2014, at the Wells Nursing Home following a short illness.
Born November 22, 1923, in Isari, Greece, she emigrated to Johnstown in July 1948, after marrying Basil M. Julius, who predeceased her February 22, 1959.
Bessie was a glove worker for Scottsmores and then worked at the Johnstown Knitting Mill until 1969.
She loved her family and her home, especially taking care of her garden and cooking delicious Greek food and pastries.
She is survived by her beloved son, Michael B. Julius and his wife, Catherine, of Johnstown; and her granddaughter, Vicki Julius of Burlington, Vermont. Other survivors include her sister, Katerini Mitropoulou of Greece and many nieces and nephews living in Greece, and parts of the United States and Canada.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 North Melcher St., Johnstown.
A Greek Orthodox funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at the St. Theodore Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Washington Ave., Gloversville. Father Patric Legato of Albany will officiate.
Interment at Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown will follow.
