Eleanor M. Cowles, 64, of Lower Prospect Street, Fonda, passed away peacefully Friday, February 28, at Albany Medical Center after a short illness.
Born July 31, 1949, in Gloversville, New York, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Grace Blowers Henderson Sr. Eleanor was a graduate of the Gloversville High School and has lived most of her life in Fonda.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, horse movies, listening to country music and taking care of her two cats, Fiona and Murphy.

Eleanor attended the Fonda Reformed Church.
Survivors include her sister, Thelma (Gary) Dennie of Gloversville, NY; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by her longtime companion of 20 years, Joseph Gritzback; a sister, Irene Oare; a brother, Bernard C. Henderson Jr.; several half brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church, 19 Broadway, Fonda, with the Rev. Jennifer Yeske officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the church service. Cremation will follow services.
