George P. Ryan, age 85, passed through the gates of heaven peacefully Saturday, February 15, 2014, with his loving family by his side. George was born December 28, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Thomas B. Ryan and Elizabeth Hanson Ryan. George attended schools in NYC and went on to play minor league baseball from his late teens through his twenties when he met his loving wife, Lily Sommers Ryan. While starting their life together George earned his bachelor's degree from SUNY New Paltz. George worked for different entities for NYS before retiring from the Broadalbin School District in 1984 as a history teacher. An avid Mets fan, George attended many games during his retirement and looked forward to their annual trips to Florida to catch spring training. George spent his retirement years serving his church as a pastor until retiring in 2012. George was a loving and caring family man who enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with his loving wife of 57 years, George is survived by his children, Theresa Town (Robert), Catherine Wager, Christine Armstrong (William), Kevin Ryan, Timothy Ryan (Sherri), Diane Scott (Michael); and 13 grandchildren, Amy Solar (Steve), Alyssa Wilson (Luke), Shane Town (Kari), Ryan and Eric Wager, Bradley Armstrong (Chelcey), Thomas and Julia Armstrong, Abby Ryan, Racquel and Colton Ryan, Ashleigh and Michael Scott; seven great-grandchildren; along with nieces and cousins. George is also survived by his brothers, John Ryan (Laura) and Daniel Ryan (Susan).
The Family will receive friends Saturday, March 1, 2014, beginning at 9 a.m. with a memorial service to immediately follow at the Life Christian Center, 1680 State Hwy. 67, Johnstown, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice.
