Charles "John" Van Every Sr., 64, of Rt. 30, Mayfield, died Thursday, February 20, 2014. John was known for always helping people and his injuries were sustained in an accident while helping a disabled vehicle on the side of the road. He was born in Gloversville, NY, on December 25, 1949, the son of the late Charles and Blanche Lawton Van Every.
John was a mechanic and worked for Bramer Chevrolet and later for Skips Service Station in Northville. He also helped many others over the years.
He was married to Donna M. Knapp Van Every, who predeceased him on December 31, 2012.
Survivors include his son, Charles "Johnny" and his wife Catherine Van Every of Mayfield; one daughter, Tina Marie Van Every Hawthorne and her husband Chris of California; two stepchildren, David Gallup of Florida and Nicole Gallup of Watervliet; one brother, Pearl and his wife Melanie Van Every of Edinburg; and one sister, Judy Johnson of Gloversville. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ida Mae Van Every of Broadalbin; his grandchildren, Brittany, Briann and Blaine Van Every; and his great-granddaughter, Austyn Van Every aka "Punkin Head."
He was predeceased by his wife Donna; his brother, James Van Every; and his granddaughter, Bethany Van Every.
Friends may call on Monday, February 24, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Northville Funeral Service. A graveside service for burial will be held in the spring in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.
