Joseph A. Licciardi

Joseph A. Licciardi, aged 87, passed on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at his home in Johnstown, with his loving family close at hand.

Mr. Licciardi was born in Johnstown in 1926 and was a 1944 graduate of Johnstown High School. He entered the United States Army after graduation and was a member of the U.S. forces that rebuilt Japan in the aftermath of WW II. He was proud to have participated in a trip to Washington, D.C. and tour of the WW II Memorial as an honoree of the Honor Flight Network.

After completing his military service, Mr. Licciardi attended Ryder College, graduating with a degree in accounting. He began working for General Electric in 1951 as an accountant. His career in accounting management at GE spanned 36 years and he retired in 1987.

Mr. Licciardi was wed to Genevieve Smolinsky in 1953. Their family, including children, Catherine (Joseph) Santangelo, Joseph (JoLisa Pelosi) Licciardi, Stephen (Cynthia) Licciardi and Christopher (Cindy) Licciardi, were and continue to be a fixture on Johnstown's west end.

Genevieve predeceased Joe in 2004.

Joe retained his passion for cooking. His kitchen was his domain and he took great pleasure in feeding his family during holiday gatherings or on any other day for no special occasion.

Joe was a regular participant where he could find a good card game. He enjoyed frequent trips to the Turning Stone with his posse of local senior gentlemen players.

Mr. Licciardi was a parishioner at Holy Trinity Church of Johnstown and was a fifty year plus member of Johnstown Knights of Columbus Council 239.

He is survived by his children and by grandchildren, Stephen (Rachel) Licciardi, Katy Santangelo, Christopher Licciardi, Elizabeth Santangelo, Nikki Licciardi, Andy Licciardi, Joe Licciardi and Maria Licciardi; and by great-granddaughter, Eva Licciardi. One brother, Bennie; and two sisters, Josie Santangelo and Anna Nock also survive. Sister, Theresa Leotta; and brothers, Salvatore Licciardi and Daniel Licciardi predeceased Mr. Licciardi.

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 21, at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. Mass of Christian burial at Holy Trinity Church, Glebe Street, Johnstown, will be on Saturday, February 22, at 11 a.m.

Spring interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown.
