Queensbury sweeps Mayfield Invy

BENSON -Mayfield's Mitch Akowicz was the top local finisher in the boys varsity meet at the Mayfield Nordic Ski Invitational Thursday at Lapland Lake Ski Center.

Akowicz toured the course in 37:45 to earn a 15th place finish in the 43 skier field.

Austin Davis placed 28th in the field for the Panthers with his time of 41:34, while Devante Marshall was 29th in 42:20 and Brent Gray placed 30th in 42:34.

Zack Young was the top finisher for Canajoharie with his 40th place finish in 56:54, while Tyler Bell was 42nd in 58:10 and Soren Huydencia was 43rd in 1:08:12.

In the varsity girls portion of the meet, Mayfield's Emilie Cromie placed ninth in the 37 skier field with her time of 37:14.

Canajoharie's Paige Shovelton placed 33rd in the girls meet with her time of 54:58. Grace Corrigan was 34th for the Lady Cougars in 1:02:58, while Carolyn Adams was 35th in 1:09:21 and Ashley Darling was 37th in 1:13:37.

Queensbury won both varsity competitions and Shenendehowa was runner-up in both.

Queensbury posted a score of 15 points to edge Shenendehowa's 17 points for the boys title and won the girls meet 8-23.

The Mayfield boys placed ninth with 72 points, while Canajoharie was 10th with 125.

The Canajoharie girls placed seventh with 102 points, while Mayfield finished with an incomplete score.
