HAGAMAN - Jordyn DeNeuville of Broadalbin-Perth High School and Jordan Ahrens of Fort Plain High School have been named winners of the Fulmont Roadrunners Club's annual Cross Country Runner ofthe Year Awards honoring the year's top female and male cross country runners in Fulton and Montgomery County high schools.
In addition, the Roadrunners honored the girls cross country team from Broadalbin-Perth, which was first in the Section II Class C Championships for 2013 and finished sixth in the Class C New York State Championship race that followed. Members of that team, coached by Jeff Richards, included Runner of the Year DeNeuville, along with Coreena Monroe, MacKenzie Dezolt, Victoria Opalka, Alex Opalka, Sarah Naple, Cadey Nolan, Renee Bellinger, Joanna Tavolaro, and Victoria Laurange.
For their achievements, DeNeuville, Ahrens, and the championship team received special recognition at the Fulmont Roadrunners' annual Winter Wimp foot race held Jan. 11 in Hagaman.

DeNeuville, an 8th-grader, led her Broadalbin-Perth High team with a third-place finish in the Section II, Class C Championship race, and she was 42nd (of 130 competitors) in the State Class C Championship that followed. Other highlights of her 2013 running year included a fourth-place finish in the Grout Invitational, a sixth in the Burnt Hills Invitational, and an 11th-place finish in the Foothills Council Invitational.
Highlighting the running year of Ahrens, a senior at Fort Plain, were a second-place finish in the Class C Section II Championship race, followed by a 15th (of 132 runners) in the New York State Class C Championship. His outstanding running year also included a second in the Western Athletic Conference Invitational, a third in the Grout Invitational, and a fourth in the Burnt Hills Invitational.
Outstanding XC Runner Awards
In addition to the overall winners, the Fulmont Roadrunners select the top female and male cross country runners in each of the Fulton and Montgomery County high schools that field cross country teams. They too were honored at the Winter Wimp.
Winners of these outstanding cross country runner awards for 2013 were Amsterdam's Ilenis Quinones, a senior, and Brett Flint, a junior; seniors Coreena Monroe and Greg Bogdan of Broadalbin-Perth; senior Cheyenne Munson and junior Ruben McFarlane, competing for the Canajoharie-Fort Plain; seniors Kimberly Geniti and Cameron Gilligan of Fonda-Fultonville; Cassandra Ryan, a senior, and Jack Hayes, a junior, at Gloversville; seniors Skylar Swatt and Daeshan Buseck of Johnstown; and Emily Cromie and Josh Gallup, both seniors at Mayfield.
The Fulmont Roadrunners initiated the high school cross country awards program 18 years ago as part of its efforts to encourage and reward young runners in Fulton and Montgomery counties. It also awards scholarships annually to outstanding high school seniors in the area who compete in varsity running programs and are going on to college.
Amsterdam High School track and cross country coach Stu Palczak heads up both programs for the club.
