Georgiana M. (Cheney) Smith

Georgiana M. (Cheney) Smith, 89, of St. Johnsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center with her loving family by her side.

She was born July 13, 1924, in Ticonderoga, NY, the daughter of the late Alfred and Jessie (Blanchard) Cheney and was educated in Rockwood schools.

Her marriage to Henry Smith Sr., took place on July 21, 1948, at the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church.

Georgiana was last employed as a machine operator for the former Allegro Shoe Company in St. Johnsville, NY.

The greatest honor in Georgiana's life was being called wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She tended to her family her whole life by showing love and compassion.

Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Henry; her loving daughters, Karen Shaut and husband Robert, Constance (Connie) Hickey and husband Wayne, and Sheila Buley and husband Gerald, all of St. Johnsville; her loving son, Wayne "Chet" Smith and wife Brenda of St. Johnsville; a brother, Alfred Cheney and wife Marion of Caroga Lake; two sisters, Hazel Chatterton of Rockwood and Jessie Loftstrum and husband Calvin of Syracuse; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her son, Henry "Hank' Smith Jr.; a brother, Herbert Cheney; and four sisters, Arabella Ahrens, Agnes Blayzor, Phyllis Mowery and Charlotte Lane.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. from the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, NY, 568-7040, with the Reverend Harry J. Teuchert, pastor of St. Johnsville United Methodist Church officiating. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 30, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. Spring interment will take place at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY. All memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC, 20004 or to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas Texas 75231.
