GLOVERSVILLE - The Gloversville girls basketball team got off to a fast start Tuesday night against the Glens Falls Lady Indians.

Emily Washburn made a quick move in the low post and Stacia Griesemer added a pair of free throws to give the Lady Dragons an early advantage.

However, the Lady Indians went to a high-energy, full-court press and forced five-straight turnovers in the backcourt, sparking an 18-0 run en route to a 89-30 victory Tuesday at Gloversville High School.

"We did not handle their press well and could not stop their transition game," Gloversville coach Robyn Guzielek said. "We did well early, but they got that run and we did not recover from it."

Lucy Tougas benefitted from the early turnovers, netting seven first-quarter points for the Lady Indians (9-3 overall, 7-2 Foothills) as they jumped out to a 20-8 lead by the end of the opening period.

Washburn accounted for six of Gloversville's eight points in the quarter.

Glens Falls exploded for a 30-point second period, while the Lady Dragons managed 10 points with Griesemer hitting for five points, Washburn three and Natalie Kucel hitting for a basket in the quarter.

The Lady Indians continued to roll after intermission, putting up their third 20-plus quarter in the third to take a 70-27 advantage into the final period.

Glens Falls closed out the final period with six players contributing to a 19-point effort to leave with a season-high 89 points on the board.

Skylar Girard led a trio of 20-point plus scorers for Glens Falls with 26 points, including three 3-pointers. Lucy Tougas hit for 23 points, while Monica Harvey chipped in with 21. Demi Vanderheyden also hit for double-digits for Glens Falls with 10.

Washburn finished the game with 17 points for winless Gloversville, while Griesemer had nine and Kucel and Emily Ross had two points apiece.

Gloversville will travel to take on Johnstown Friday night, with the varsity game scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
