JOHNSTOWN - The Common Council will consider executing a $200,000 state grant agreement to improve downtown at its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.
The city in December was awarded a 2013 NY Main Street Program Grant. The purpose of the grant is to revitalize downtown by providing streetscape improvements and grants to owners on Main Street to renovate their buildings.
"I think [the grant will] definitely be a benefit to the community," Mayor Michael Julius said this morning.
The grant will pay 75 percent of streetscape improvements, up to $15,000, with the city matching 25 percent toward improvements. In addition, the grant would pay 75 percent of building renovations, with building owners matching 25 percent toward improvements.
Other proposed resolutions to be considered by the council Tuesday night include three related to surplus equipment. The council will consider accepting an offer from the public for surplus equipment that includes portable radios. The council will advertise for public bids to purchase obsolete city vehicles. The council also may consider rejecting several bids for equipment that includes a spreader, plow and mower.
Council members Tuesday will consider publicly advertising for a consultant to assist the city with administration of a Community Development Block Grant the city received. The grant will be used to assist with upgrades to the Gloversville-Johnstown Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Other items on the agenda include: liaison reports, a mayoral appointment, a new Johnstown Senior Citizens Center agreement, approving breathing apparatus bids, and an appointment to the Johnstown Public Library Board of Trustees.
