Norma J. String, 82, of Utica, NY, died January 15th, 2014, after a long illness.
She was born on September 6, 1931, in Gloversville, NY, to Richard and Margaret (Place) Lewis. She is survived by her loving husband C. Robert (Bob) String Sr. of Utica; her son, C. Robert (Rob) String Jr. and his wife Pamela of North Reading, MA; her grandson, Andrew and his wife Jillian of Dracut, MA; along with her two great-grandsons, Neal and Noah; her brothers, Richard Lewis and wife Linda of Scotia, NY, and Paul Lewis and wife Sally of Endicott, NY; sisters, Joan Giberson and husband, Thomas of Lakehurst, NJ, and the late Joyce and Arnold Goodbread of Gloversville, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica and a longtime member of the church choir, Circle 16, and other church organizations. In her youth she worked as a switchboard operator in Gloversville, NY, and worked for many years as a credit secretary for Rich Plan of Utica until her retirement. An avid reader, Norma volunteered as a literacy tutor in Utica. She loved trips to Maine, lighthouses, the Yankees and Rangers, Christmas, everything Tony Bennett sang, root beer floats, and of course, her loving friends and family. Her dogs, Danny and Susie miss their best friend.
