LOCK SHELDRAKE - Amsterdam's Brandon Lapi captured the 138-pound championship Saturday at the prestigious Eastern State Wrestling Classic at Sullivan Community College.
Lapi was seeded second in the tournament and advanced to the championship match with decisions over Daniel Baruch (Scarsdale), James Matias (Rocky Point), Justin Cooksey (MacArthur) and No. 3 seed Michael Raccioppi (Minisink Valley).
In the championship match, Lapi decisioned No. 8 seed Sam Ward (Locust Valley), who upset top-seeded Tristan Rifanburg (Norwich) in the quarter finals, 4-2, to win the title.
