Voters in the Northville Central School District today rejected a proposed merger with the Mayfield Central School District.
The Northville vote was 670-309 against the merger.
Meanwhile, Mayfield Central School District voters approved the proposed merger in a vote of 386-273.
However, approval was required from voters in both districts.
As a result of today's vote, neither district can pursue a merger with another school district for a year.
Some Northville voters interviewed today said they wanted their school district to remain small. A Northville school board member said he also heard people were worried about a tax increase for Northville district property owners.
