H. Richard Getman

H. Richard Getman, 72, of Gloversville, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam after a long battle with lewy body dementia and Parkinson's Disease.

He was born in Gloversville on April 11, 1941, the son of the late George H. and Florence (Gregory) Getman Boles, and was a lifelong resident of the Gloversville area.

Richie is survived by his loving wife, Christine (Sartin) Getman, whom he married on April 24, 1989; his son, Jeffrey (Tracey) Getman; and three grandchildren, Madeline, Hannah and Nathaniel Getman of Mt. Kisco, NY; stepchildren, Beth Hay (Mark Foster) and Bradley Brink of Gloversville; and stepgrandchildren, Jake Palmer, Garrick Hay and Elise Foster, all of Gloversville, Evan Brink of Wilmington, NC and Alexander Brink of Martinsburg, WV.

He is also survived by sisters, Joyce (Alphonso) Mancini of Fonda, Betty Ann Getman of Gloversville, Linda Sue (Edward) Hartin of Greenbank, WA and Kathryn Billie Towne (Greg Patterson) of Gloversville; brothers, George H. (Janice) Getman of Gloversville and Naples, FL, Lawrence (Dorothy) Getman, James (Donna) Getman and Carl (Jacquelyn) Boles, all of Gloversville; brothers-in-law, Frederick "Skip" (Barbara) Sartin and Jeff Lee Sartin (Sharon Cannizzo), both of Gloversville; many nieces and nephews; best friend, Michael (Patricia) Sweeney; many wonderful friends and his feline "dogs," Mork and Mindy.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Carl T. Boles; and his canine buddy, Jack.

Richard worked in the construction business, owned a fish market for several years, worked in the leather industry (including traveling to many foreign countries while with Wilson's Leather) and bartended at Bleecker Fish & Game Club. His favorite times were spent with family and friends, often at his family's camp at Mountain Lake and included hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobling and four-wheeling.

Richie's family wishes to acknowledge the dedicated and loving care he received from the fourth floor nursing staff at St. Mary's, Mountain Valley Hospice and Doctors William Mayer and Kevin Cope.

Suggested memorial contributions are to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville; or to the Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville.

At Richie's request, he will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at the Concordia Club, Gloversville from 12 p.m. (Noon) to 5 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014.
