Brian K. Bates

Brian K. Bates, 35, of Johnstown, passed away suddenly on Friday evening, December 20, 2013, after being stricken at his home.

Born on February 6, 1978, in Gloversville, he is the son of the late Ronald Bates and Crystal Fischer Bates.

Mr. Bates was a 1996 graduate of Gloversville High School. He also had earned associate degrees in accounting, mechanics and computer technology. Brian also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing and camping. Brian also enjoyed playing World of War-Craft. He loved his canine children, two Akitas: Punky Bear and Kodiak and his chocolate labrador, Rogue.

Brian is survived by his beloved wife, Melanie Bates, whom he married on July 18, 2009. Also surviving are his mother, Crystal Bates of Stratford; a sister, Margaret "Maggie" Bates of Gloversville; one uncle, Kerwin Fischer of Oklahoma; his father and mother-in-law, David and Pattie Waldvogel of Johnstown; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his father, Brian was predeceased by a brother, Ronald Bates, who passed away on December 20, 2004.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
